HOUSTON — A group of 13 Houston bartenders, a local bar owner and a talented photographer got together to create a calendar that is sure to give you a chuckle.

It's also for a great cause.

After hearing that the Houston Area Women's Center was in desperate need of donations a few months ago, Michelle Wilburn, a group of bartenders and a talented photographer came up with an idea: Slinging Love calendars.

What's better than bartenders baring it all in order to raise money for the HAWC, which has helped survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the Houston area since 1977?

Wilburn, a Houston native, and her husband bought Catbirds, on Westheimer between Yupon and Commonwealth streets, about a year and a half ago and made a point to be active in the community. When she heard HAWC was in need of donations, she acted swiftly.

The goal is to raise $15,000 from the limited release of 1,000 calendars.

They are on sale at several bars around town, including Catbirds.

Calendars may fluctuate slightly in cost (think $1 - $2 for tax), but no matter where they are bought, $15 will be donated to the HAWC.

Here's a list of the bartenders in the calendar:

  • January: Mike McMullin of OKRA Charity Saloon
  • February: Danny Furness of Houston Watch Co.
  • March: Paul Redmond of The New Potato
  • April: Charlie Fernandez of Big Star Bar and Sassafras
  • May: Scott Hofheins of Dan Electro’s
  • June: Roberto Rivas of The West End
  • July: Jonas Thompson of Poison Girl
  • August: Zach Boyle of Catbirds and Dino's
  • September: Micah Youngblood of Catbirds
  • October: Ryan Sawyer of Rudyard’s
  • November: Tommy Ho of Anvil and Penny Quarter
  • December: Noah Edger of Boondocks
  • 2020: Chris Burns of Present Company

The calendars are for sale at these locations but may become available at more locations in the future. Click on the bar for more information:
