NORTHWEST HARRIS COUNTY – Firefighters believe lightning may be to blame for an apartment fire Wednesday night.

The Yorktown Crossing Apartments off Highway 6 caught fire just before 7 p.m. Six units were damaged but no one suffered any injuries, according to the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department.

Residents ran door to door to rescue their neighbors.

“I rescued a dog and a mother and her two sons from the top, top floor, which is completely gone now,” said resident Essence Martin.

The Red Cross was on scene to help families affected by the fire.
