Goose Creek ISD adding 5 minutes to school days due to Deer Park fire

There are no changes to the school hours for any GCISD junior schools, Peter E. Hyland Center, IMPACT Early College High School and POINT.

BAYTOWN, Texas — Goose Creek ISD has decided to add an extra five minutes to the start of school days for slect campuses after the district was forced to cancel classes for a day due to the ITC fire in Deer Park.

This plan will go into effect beginning Monday April 1 and last until the end of the school year. This will not affect school end times, according to the district.

Elementary schools that currently begin at 7:30 a.m. will now begin the school day at 7:25 a.m. The elementary schools that currently begin at 8 a.m. and will begin at 7:55 a.m. 

High schools affected by the changes include Sterling High School, Robert E. Lee High School, Goose Creek Memorial High School and Stuart Career Tech High School. These campuses will start at 8:20 a.m. and end at 3:45 p.m.

There are no changes to the school hours for any GCISD junior schools, Peter E. Hyland Center, IMPACT Early College High School and POINT.

La Porte ISD will not be adding any extra time or days to their school year.

"We have determined that because we have surplus minutes built into the 2018/19 calendar, La Porte ISD students will not have to make up the days missed last week," the district told KHOU 11 News. 

We are waiting to hear from other districts about their make up plans.
