Expect delays on I-10 East westbound as bridge repair continues at San Jacinto River

Drivers will want to use Highway 90 or the Fred Hartman Bridge to head westbound into Houston.

BAYTOWN, Texas — Crews continue to make emergency repairs on the I-10 East bridge over the San Jacinto River after a barge struck it on Monday afternoon.

The Texas Department of Transportation says the bridge will close entirely again heading westbound starting Tuesday afternoon.

Two westbound lanes were getting by between Spur 330/Decker and the bridge. Expect delays as you head into Houston. TxDOT opened two mainlanes Tuesday night after striping and bridge inspection.

How to get around it

Drivers trying to get into Houston may want to take Highway 90 from the Crosby area heading westbound to connect to Beltway 8 or 610. You can also use 330 or 146 to connect to the Fred Hartman Bridge and get over the ship channel heading westbound from the Baytown area to connect to Highway 225.

Eastbound lanes are not directly impacted by the roadwork.

Monday afternoon, the traffic was diverted off the bridge and onto the feeder road while crews worked to repair the damaged concrete pillar underneath the bridge.
