Suspect in custody after high-speed chase across Houston comes to crash-ending on Highway 288 near Reed Road

Air 11 captured the end of the chase, which lasted around an hour.

HOUSTON — A suspect is in custody after leading Houston police and Texas DPS troopers on a chase for nearly an hour.

The chase began as a traffic stop at Main and the South Loop just after 1 p.m. Monday when officers attempted to serve a felony aggravated assault warrant at a hotel on Kirby. According to authorities, the officers spotted Clayton Bryant in a gray Lexus and tried to block off the parking lot exit.

Bryant used his vehicle to hit the police cruiser and then drove out of the parking lot, according to authorities.

Bryant took police on circles throughout Houston for about 45 minutes, leading them through neighborhoods and then along the 610 Loop, around and then on Highway 288. Police said he was on the phone during part of the chase.

The chase came to an end when the suspect crashed into a vehicle just off Highway 288 and Reed Road. No injuries were reported.

Air 11 captured Bryant putting both of his hands out of his vehicle to show officers he was not armed.

Police and DPS troopers then got out of their vehicles and instructed Bryant to slowly get out and walk towards them with his hands visible. He was then forced to the ground and placed in handcuffs.

On a couple of occasions during the chase, officers appeared to try to get close enough for a PIT maneuver.

In addition to the charges he's already facing, Bryant will be charged with evading arrest, aggravated assault of a police officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
