Crews identify man, woman who went underwater in Lake Conroe, search continues

A boater called 911 to say they both went underwater and hadn’t been seen since.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — Crews are searching for a man and a woman in Lake Conroe after they went underwater and didn’t resurface Friday night.

A boater called 911 to say they both went underwater and hadn’t been seen since. Montgomery County Precinct 1 lake units, along with a Conroe fireboat and game warden, had been searching since Friday evening but suspended the search around 10 p.m. with plans to resume in the morning.

Witnesses told investigators around 4 p.m. Friday, five people rented a pontoon boat from a local livery. They said the boat stopped in the area of Ayers Island where a 26-year-old woman, identified by authorities as Nizigiyimana Peragie of Houston, fell overboard.

The woman's 24-year-old boyfriend, identified by authorities as Nsengiyumva Adrien of Houston, jumped into the water to assist her. Witnesses said both people started to struggle in the water when a second man jumped into the water to assist them.

The man and woman went under the water, and the second man was pulled out of the water by a passerby in another boat.

Investigators said none of the people on the boat knew how to swim.

The Constable's Office is in the process of narrowing the search area and contacting the man and woman's their next of kin. They said both of them are from the Houston area.
