CHINA, Texas — China Elementary School will reopen Tuesday after cleaning crews worked inside the campus due to an unconfirmed case of meningitis.
According to a Facebook post from Hardin-Jefferson ISD, the Beaumont Public Health Department hasn't received the lab 'confirmation of the suspected meningitis case.'
The district's statement said in part, "The health and safety of our students is our top priority. The cleaning and sanitization of China Elementary will be completed by the end of the day, and we will resume school on November 5, 2019."
An empty school isn't a sight Rachal Jordan thought she would never see on a school day.
China Elementary has been a part of Jordan's life for a long time.
Her kids attended the school, and now here grandchildren attend.
She said even after learning that the school closed Monday due to a possible case of meningitis, she wasn't worried.
"I have all of faith in China Elementary and the administrator and I wasn't really that concerned about it," she said.
Monday, 12News spoke with the Beaumont Health Department director. She said they're waiting on test results to find out if the child has meningitis. The results will also show whether it's bacterial or viral is the child does have meningitis.
