HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - An assistant district attorney with Harris County was fired Wednesday for lying on her employment application, according to officials.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office say Marlene Bovell started her job as an assistant district attorney Monday. She was assigned to the misdemeanor division.

Officials say when asked if she had ever been arrested or convicted of a crime anywhere aside from a minor traffic violation, Bovell responded, “No.” Bovell admitted Wednesday she lied on the application, according to the DA’s Office.

According to officials, Bovell’s background was checked through databases used by law enforcement to determine if someone was arrested previously or convicted of a crime, but the databases did not return any information indicating Bovell had any earlier encounters with authorities.

Bovell previously worked at the Harris County District Clerk’s Office from July 2013 to July 2015 as an assistant district clerk.
