HPD: 22-year-old woman charged with DWI after hitting cyclist

Police believe Jacquline Cruz, 22, was under the influence of drugs when the cyclist pulled out in front of her. The cyclist was hit and is in critical condition.

HOUSTON -- A bicyclist is in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle Wednesday night in southeast Houston.

It happened around 9:35 p.m. on Griggs near Telephone, according to the Houston Police Department.

Officials at the scene say the 60-year-old man was hit by a Nissan Altima as he crossed the road in an unprotected area. A woman driving westbound in the Nissan said she was unable to avoid hitting the man.

Initially police at the scene said the woman stopped and performed CPR on the victim and would likely not face charges, however, the driver has since been charged with driving while intoxicated.
