19-year-old arrested in gang war shooting of Lamar student appears in court

District Attorney Kim Ogg says Johnson carried out the shootings execution style.

HOUSTON — A judge denied bond for the 19-year-old charged and arrested in an "ongoing gang war" that led to two murders last year.

Kendrick Johnson appeared in court Monday morning. Police have asked the media not to show his face as the investigation is ongoing.

They believe he's connected to an ongoing gang war between the 103 Gang and the Young Scott Block Gang.

One of Johnson's alleged victims is 18-year-old Delindsey Mack, who was fatally shot near his school, Lamar High School, in November 2018.

The other victim was Kenneth Roberson, who was murdered on Long Drive in September 2018.

District Attorney Kim Ogg says Johnson carried out the shootings execution style, was in possession of the gun used in the shootings and sighted an Instagram thread in which Johnson allegedly admits to being the gunman.

"He didn't even know my son, my son didn't even know him. You take a life because of the people you hang with in certain neighborhoods who you don't like so you just take a life?" asked Yvonne Ferguson-Smith, one of the victims' mothers.

The DA's Office says they plan to use this case to crack down on gang violence in the city.
