Husband is perfect match for wife's kidneys

It would take five to seven years for his wife to maybe get a new kidney. He refused to wait.

Last July, Shanajha and Gabriel Hill vowed to love in sickness and in health.

"She's my rock when I need a rock," said Gabriel.

Seven months into their marriage that has been tested.

"The doctor told me you're going to start dialysis very soon and you will need a transplant," said Shanajha.

Shanajha's kidneys were failing down to 14 percent function.

"I thought it was a death sentence honestly," said Shanajha.

"It was heartbreaking to see her go through that," said Gabriel. "It was life changing."

It would take five to seven years for his wife to maybe get a new kidney. He refused to wait.

"God blessed me with my wife," said Gabriel. "It was a no brainer for me to do it for her."

For a year, doctors at Methodist Hospital ran tedious tests to see if it'd even be possible.

"I was hopeful, but I didn't know what God's plan was," said Shanajha.

But on Monday, two days before Valentine's Day, a miracle. They learned they were the perfect match.

"I'm grateful he's my husband," said Shanajha. "It's truly the epitome of bone of my bone flesh of my flesh. I'm going to get his kidney."

It's the ultimate gift from a husband to a wife. And if their marriage was strong before now it's unbreakable.

"Now to have his kidney we're really tied," she said. "And he can't get it back."

They are two strangers brought together by something greater.

"God put him here for a reason," said Shanajha.

"We're perfect for each other," said Gabriel. "In all aspects."

They're a living example of what it means to truly be meant to be.

They plan to have the surgery in mid April.
