NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University will postpone commencement as a part of the university's response to combat the spread of COVID-19.
The university is working on possibly holding a virtual commencement ceremony. SFA will host another ceremony in the future if graduates want to participate in an in-person ceremony. The university will confer degrees and mail graduates their diplomas.
Meanwhile, classes will be moving online for the remainder of the semester.
For clinical placements leading to professional licensure, the university will review instructional requests that meet social-distancing guidelines.
Summer classes will also be offered online. Registration will begin on March 23.
Residence halls will be closed for the remainder of the spring semester. Students must move out of their dorms by Sunday, March 29. Emergency housing will be available on a case-by-case basis.
Students can request an application for emergency housing by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students not on campus will need to arrange a future check-out day. Information about the process will be e-mailed to student no later than March 25. Check-out dates will be held between April 4 until May 9.
Students will be credited for moving out earlier. Dining and other fees will also be pro-rated.
Beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Stephen F. Austin will begin making most buildings accessible to those with a card or key. However, Steen Library will be open on a modified schedule.
The SFA Post Office will remain open until further notice.
All on-campus meetings and events are either postponed or canceled at this time.
