Duval County schools extend spring break to March 22 amid coronavirus concerns

The Duval County Public Schools superintendent announced the extension Friday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Duval County Public Schools is extending its spring break by one week, superintendent Dr. Diana Greene announced in a media conference Friday afternoon.

Greene said the extra week will give the community time to implement travel guidance that was revised during the school district's spring holidays. It will also allow DCPS to better prepare strategies to prevent the community spread of the virus.

Students, faculty and staff who traveled internationally over spring break are required to self-isolate for 14 days upon return. That includes anyone who went on a cruise.

The school district has been giving updates for parents, staff and students at its coronavirus page on its website.

So far, one patient in Duval County has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
