BRENHAM, Texas - Blue Bell Ice Cream has issued a voluntary recall for two flavors due to possible Listeria contamination.

The company sent out a press release via their Twitter account on Wednesday.

The recall covers the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor in half-gallon sizes with code date 082618226 and pints with code dates 081518242 and 082418242. Also the Cookie Two-Step flavor in the half-gallon size with code dates 080418222 and 081818224. The code dates can be found on the bottom of the cartons.

The cookie dough ingredient that could be contaminated came from a third-party distributor, according to Blue Bell.

The products believed to be affected were distributed to the following 10 states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The company said it has received no reports of illnesses.

Consumers should not eat the recalled products and are encouraged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Blue Bell says it is initiating the recall out of an abundance of caution. The recall is being conducted in cooperation of the FDA.

We're told more than 1,000 cases of the contaminated cookie dough had been shipped to the creamery in Brenham last month and ice cream had been made, but it was not shipped out.

Blue Bell says the ice cream will be disposed of properly and according to FDA guidelines.
