CHANNELVIEW, Texas - Four bodies were found in a burned car in Channelview on Friday, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say the bodies of two men and two women, all African American, were found inside the burned car at 15331 Market street.
The Channelview Fire Department responded to the scene around 10 a.m. after getting calls about the vehicle being on fire.
Firefighters found two victims in the trunk and two in the backseat of the car.
Investigators said they are conducting a murder investigation and whoever set fire to the car was trying to cover up a crime.
The fire did little damage to the front of the car.
"It didn't engulf the car which would have been hard to determine as far as evidence but hopefully it will work to our advantage." said Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland of the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
A nearby neighbor found the crime scene disturbing.
“It concerns me because I have two small children,” said Archie Brewer as he worked on his front porch on Friday.
Brewer said his brother was murdered a few streets over three decades ago. That crime was solved but the latest one has caused him to relive the nightmare.
“Hopefully they’ll do their job and find out who killed them,” added Brewer.
There are no obvious causes of death at this time.
A special team of forensics investigators extracted DNA samples Friday evening and are working to determine the identities of the victims.
