High school teacher in The Woodlands keeps one-wheel promise to students

Katherine Thom is a geography teacher in The Woodlands. Three years ago, she promised her students she'd learn to ride a unicycle.

HOUSTON — There is plenty to appreciate about our Houston-area teachers. And all next week, KHOU will honor them during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Students at The Woodlands High School must appreciate their geography teacher, Katherine Thom!  Katherine tells us that three years ago, she made a promise to her students when they were freshmen. She said she would learn to ride a unicycle.

And we have video proof that she did!

Katherine sent us video of her one-wheel promise kept as support for seniors whose last year of high school has been turned upside-down by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said learning was harder than she thought and that she was inspired by a neighbor who was learning to play the drums!

We want to wish all the outstanding teachers and students all the best, and to you seniors, congratulations!
