This North Texas school district just approved moving to 4-day school week, adding to statewide trend

More districts across the state have been moving to four-day school weeks.

ANNA, Texas — Editor's note: The video published above is a WFAA report from August 2022 when Mineral Wells ISD announced its implementation of a four-day school week.

The Anna Independent School District (AISD) school board announced Friday it approved moving to a four-day school structure for the 2023-24 year.

The district said it made the move after surveying the community and staff in November 2022, and the results yielded 72% of parents and 87% of staff in favor of the adjustment.

The newly-implemented four-day school week will be a three-year pilot, the district said.

"School leadership expects the 4-day week to increase student achievement with more opportunities for intervention, and help with teacher retention and recruitment," the district said.

More districts across the state have been moving to four-day school weeks, including Mineral Wells ISD, Tioga ISD, Chico ISD, Rains ISD and Alba-Golden ISD.
