Count from the bottom up with me (above pic). The first two larger boxes are brood boxes. That's where the bees are making a home, making baby bees, bee 'bread' to feed the babies and storing some honey. The next smaller box up is the new 'honey super.'
It's filled with frames like this with pre made hexagonal shapes for the bees to build honeycomb on. But I made sure to also put a few of these special 'blank' frames (pic below) in there too. That's so they can make some of the honeycomb totally naturally without any help. I really just want to see what they do!
The very top box has a surprise inside... these jars! The idea is that bees will fly up into the jars and build comb and make honey IN THE JAR itself. I can't wait to see what they to with that! Should find out in a few weeks during the next hive check.
