HOUSTON – A woman in northeast Houston received a rude awakening after she woke up to find a truck crashed in her front yard with a man dead inside.
According to the Houston Police Department, it happened around midnight early Thursday outside a home in the 10400 block of Bretton Drive near Calgary.
A 24-year-old, who was sleeping in his bedroom, did not initially wake up when a truck crashed onto his mother's lawn.
Tire tracks leading up to his bedroom show where to the ford f 150 came to a rest – just feet away.
"I went up and looked and thought whoa there's a truck," Jacob Guzman, resident, said. "It wasn't until police told us that there was dead body in there I was surprised real surprised."
Guzman's mother was the one who was jolted out of bed when she heard a loud boom and woke up the whole family.
They didn't know if they were about to be robbed or what was going on outside, so Guzman called authorities and waited for officers to arrive.
When police got at the scene, they found a man in his 30s dead in the driver's seat with an apparent gunshot wound. Where he was coming from or why he was driving through here is unclear.
But a 72-year-old woman, who lives less than four miles away, says the suspect truck belongs to her.
Norvie Marshall says she lent the pickup to a man, who claimed he wanted to use it to take food to senior citizens – that was more than a month ago.
"He was supposed to be taking food to some people, and I haven't seen him nor the truck since then," Marshall said. "If I ever see my truck and he be in it, I'm going to get him…pluck him upside the head."
She's now wondering if the man found dead could be the guy she lent her truck to. He has not been identified by authorities.
Police believe he was shot somewhere else before driving to this location and dying behind the wheel.
