'They didn't just take my bike. They took my life': Thieves hit motocross park 3 times in 18 months

The park's owner said the three burglaries have cost the business around $150,000.

HOUSTON — Rio Bravo Motocross Park in northeast Houston has been targeted by thieves three times in 18 months. The third theft happened Monday morning when three men climbed through an air vent and into a garage where off-road vehicles are kept.

The park’s owner, Danny Erdeljac, said the crooks made off with equipment worth more than $50,000.

“It’s devastating because you put your heart and soul into this for all the right reasons, and some thug comes along and takes it from you,” Erdeljac said.

Erdeljac, who is fighting kidney failure, bought and restored the dirt track in 2008. He’s had a camera system for several years and has turned over surveillance video for each of the three burglaries that have cost the business around $150,000.

“We’ll get through this,” Erdeljac said. “It just continuously gets harder and harder.”

Monday, the thieves took a 2014 Yamaha Viking, 2003 Honda Rancher, 2017 Honda CRF 250R, 2014 Honda CRF 230F and a 2006 Honda CRF 150 F. Erdeljac believes the same group of people are responsible for all three burglaries.

“These guys didn’t just steal my stuff,” Erdeljac said. They took my life.”

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Division is investigating the crime.
