Police looking for driver who caused fatal accident on East Freeway

Police said a woman was parked on the shoulder of the freeway when a man driving a truck rear-ended her car. According to a witness, the man immediately took off running after the crash.

A woman is dead after a hit-and-run accident in northeast Houston.

HOUSTON - A woman is dead after a hit-and-run accident in northeast Houston early Sunday morning and police are looking for the man who caused the accident.

It happened at about 4:30 a.m. on the East Freeway near Mae Drive.

Police said the woman was parked on the shoulder of the freeway when a man driving a truck rear-ended her car. The impact of the crash caused the truck to flip over on its side. According to a witness, the man was able to get out and immediately took off running.

The woman died on the scene.

Police are not sure why she was pulled over on the side of the freeway. They did say she was the only person in her car. Police also believe the man was the only occupant in his vehicle.

Houston police are gathering information to find the man.
