HOUSTON - A man who kidnapped and shot his ex-girlfriend was killed by police officers in west Houston early Friday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD says they received a call about a kidnapping around 12:30 a.m.

The woman who called 911 said her cousin was taken by her cousin's ex-boyfriend. The woman told police in a FaceTime video, she saw her cousin in a vehicle with a gun to her head.

Officers went to an apartment complex at 2525 Winrock Blvd. and found the suspect's vehicle.

When they found the suspect's apartment, they heard a woman's screams coming from inside the apartment. Fearing for her life, they forced entry, HPD said.

When they entered, officers said the suspect immediately opened fire. One of the officers saw the suspect shoot the woman inside the apartment, according to Chief Matt Slinkard.

The woman sustained at least five gunshot wounds.

When the officers made entry to the apartment a second time, the suspect picked up a knife and came toward officers.

HPD says when the suspect ignored verbal commands, one sergeant and two officers discharged their guns and shot the suspect. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The woman was taken to the hospital and she is expected to survive.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
