HPD needs help identifying gunman who killed child, injured another in weekend shooting

Police said a gunman opened fire on a vehicle at an intersection, but are unsure if the victims were the intended target.

HOUSTON — A child was shot and killed and another was injured during a possible drive-by shooting near Greenspoint, according to the Houston Police Department.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. Sunday at an intersection of Northborough Drive and Rushcreek Drive.  

Witnesses told police a silver, four-door sedan approached the intersection and a gunman leaned out the rear driver's side window and started shooting towards a nearby food store.

Bullets flew into a vehicle being driven by a woman with her two children. ages 8 and 5 years old, inside.

The mother drove to a nearby hospital where her 5-year-old daughter was pronounced dead. The 8-year-old boy was shot in the arm but is expected to recover. 

It's unknown if the mother was injured, 

Police have yet to identify the suspect in the shooting which is why they are asking for the public's help. Anyone with information on the gunman is urged to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
