Deadly carjacking under investigation in SW Houston, police say

Investigators said the two victims are friends that were drinking and hanging out in the parking lot before the deadly carjacking.

HOUSTON — One man was killed and another was shot multiple times during a carjacking in southwest Houston, according to police.

It happened just before 4:30 a.m. at Serenity at Cityside Apartments on Beverly Hill Street which is off the intersection of Hillcroft and Richmond Avenue.

Police said the two men were shot multiple times while hanging out and drinking in the apartment. Witnesses said they saw a person walk up to the victims and open fire before stealing one of their vehicles and driving away.

According to witnesses, there was also a second man seen running away, but police aren't sure if they're a suspect at this time.

Investigators said they're waiting for apartment staff to arrive so they can access several of the surveillance cameras that are mounted on the buildings.

Police hope to talk to the surviving victim as well once he's out of surgery. Meanwhile, police identified the stolen vehicle as a 2012 silver Kia Optima with a license plate JMC 720.

Anyone with information on the shooting should contact HPD's Homicide Division.
