CONROE, Texas — A 23-year-old man is accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death in Conroe, police said Wednesday.
Lirio Maldonado Jr. was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail for the murder of 20-year-old Cassandra Benitez, who was found dead Wednesday morning of apparent stab wounds, police said.
Officers responded to a welfare check at the Reserve at Forest Ridge apartments on North Frazier at 11:41 a.m. They were told a woman called the police department saying her brother had stabbed and killed his girlfriend.
Moments later, they found Benitez's body alone inside the apartment.
Police said Maldonado and Benitez have two small children who were in the home at the time of the killing. The children were not injured and were released to Child Protective Services, police said.
The family lives in Willis, according to police.
