Take a tour of HPD's horse barn this Spring Break

Visitors can check out the more than 30 horses at HPD's barn during special tours this week.

HOUSTON — Looking for fun and free things to do over Spring Break?  Why not meet some four-legged Houston Police officers.

There are 35 horses in HPD’s mounted patrol at the north side stables.

The barn at 5005 Little York near US 69 is open from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. daily for visitors, but over Spring Break, HPD does special tours and demonstrations every half hour during that time.

Texas Star is a trick horse and performs during the special tours.

During Spring Break only, HPD asks that you buy treats for $3 per bag so the animals don’t get overfed.

The rest of the year, you can visit and bring your own apples, carrots and snacks for the horses.
