HOUSTON — A man has died after he was hit by a school bus Thursday in the Heights.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. Thursday at 8th Street and Heights Boulevard.
Police said the man was riding a bicycle when he was hit by the HISD school bus with one young student on board. They said the cyclist tried to avoid hitting the bus by sliding under it but was run over by the school bus' rear wheels.
Investigators said the man, who was in his early 20s, died at the scene.
HISD released the following statement on the crash:
"An HISD school bus was involved in a fatal bicyclist accident near the intersection of Heights Boulevard and Eighth Street while completing its afternoon route on Thursday. The driver and one student were aboard the bus, and neither were injured. HISD Transportation Services is cooperating fully with the Houston Police Department investigation."
