HOUSTON — The Astros Golf Foundation on Wednesday announced this year’s dates for the Houston Open and unveiled the tournament’s new logo.

The tournament will be held Oct. 7 to Oct. 13 at the Golf Club of Houston. It will permanently move to the Memorial Park Golf Course in 2020.

Tournament organizers plan to add new elements to the event, including live entertainment and tailgating.

Last week, Houston City Council approved a $13.5 million plan to renovate the Memorial Park Golf Course. Houston Astros owner Jim Crane worked with the Astros Golf Foundation and the City of Houston on the plan, which would bring the tournament back inside city limits.

In the proposal, the foundation would commit to paying a $250,000 annual tournament fee to the Memorial Park Conservancy and $750,000 to the Houston Parks and Recreation Department.

The golf course will close during renovation, scheduled to begin next month, pending permit approvals. It would reopen by fall of 2019 if all goes as planned. The plan includes construction of a two-story driving range, a new and relocated maintenance facility and a short course for the first tee.

City officials say the improvements to the public course will not result in a fee increase for users.
