12 mumps cases confirmed at Houston ICE facility

More than 2,000 people nationwide in the custody of immigration officials are being quarantined for outbreak of mumps and other diseases.

HOUSTON — More mumps cases have been confirmed at an ICE detention facility in Houston.

The Houston Health Department said there are now 12 mumps cases at the facility off Greens Road near the Eastex Freeway. ICE officials said they are providing medical care to everyone who is sick.

State leaders said nearly 200 people from teens to the elderly at facilities across Texas have contracted mumps since October.
