HOUSTON — More than 100 pets are on their way to Colorado to a better life thanks in part to Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers.
The Lance McCullers Foundation teamed up with the Rescued Pet Movement to find homes for pets that would be euthanized. The cats and dogs were boarded up and shipped out Thursday morning.
McCullers said he quickly realized the need in Houston to quickly find homes for these animals.
“I got to Houston in 2015, and my wife and I understood the grave situation these animals are in and the euthanization rate was crazy high, the turnover rate, the way these animals are treated. Organizations out there push in the right direction, and we're proud to be a small part of it,” McCullers said.
Families are already committed to adopting the pets being transported.
