Hair stylists Michael Kemper with D-Vine Salon & Spa, along with Ron Jemison and Brea Jemison with Franklin Barber & Beauty Institute sit down with Deborah Duncan to explain why cosmetology programs are needed in high schools. The group disagrees with the Texas Education Agency’s proposed idea to close over 200 cosmetology programs in high schools in Texas. Michael Kemper has been in the industry for 50 years, while Franklin Barber & Beauty Institute has been around for 103 years. Graduated over 100,000 students. The guests share how the career field can help students pay for college or even create an income without a university degree. The stylists advocate the need for the program which offers economic stability straight out of high school.
