Houston is one of the biggest hubs in the nation for sex trafficking. It’s happening everywhere in our city, even in areas you may not expect.
Micah Gamboa, executive director of Elijah Rising, explained what sex trafficking is, who is exploited and how it is focused on bringing awareness, intervention, and restorative care to those who have been trafficked.
The organization’s van tours opens people’s eyes to what is happening in the community. For more information on the Elijah Rising van tour, click here.
Elijah Rising runs several interventions a month, where volunteers go into the places where sex trafficking occurs and offers women and girls a rescue number and resources to exit safely. The organization operates with strict protocols to ensure safety of all volunteers and staff. It also works closely with law enforcement. For more information on these interventions, click here.
Elijah Rising also has a Museum of Modern Day Slavery, which is the nation’s only museum dedicated to exposing the brutal realities of sexual slavery and exploitation. Please note that the exhibits may be too graphic for children. Parental guidance is strongly encouraged. For more information on the Museum of Modern Day Slavery, click here.
