HOUSTON — Dr. Robert Huizenga was the resident doctor on TV's "The Biggest Loser", but now he brings attention to a topic that always has a stigma attached to it, STD's, in his new book "Sex, Lies & STD's".

Texas has the fifth-lowest vaccination rate in the U.S. for human papillomavirus, otherwise known as HPV.  It is the most commonly sexually transmitted infection and 90% of men and 85% of women in the U.S. will contract HPV at some point in their lives.

HPV can cause cervical cancer, in addition to cancers of the mouth, throat, and tonsils.

The vaccine is safe and effective and helps protect against cancer and the diseases caused by HPV.  It is recommended for boys and girls age 11 and 12, but a catch-up vaccine is available for men and women up until their early 20's.
