HOUSTON — Celebrate the history of Juneteenth with the Brazoria County NAACP this Saturday, June 15th. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration for the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, the news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free finally reached Texas, two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation.
Brazoria County NAACP President, Eugene Howard, stopped by Great Day Houston to share what you can expect at their celebration this weekend including live music and a video game truck! The event takes place this Saturday at Pearland Town Center from 3 pm to 7 pm.
