A celebration of reading with author James Patterson and Neil Bush

NYT best-selling author James Patterson and Neil Bush discuss the power of literacy

HOUSTON — Barbara Bush said, "If you help a person to read, then their opportunities in life will be endless."  That is the mission of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation.

Neil Bush and New York Times best-selling author James Patterson talked with Deborah Duncan about the power of literacy and how it can truly impact a child's life.

The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation has a variety of programs that improve the lives through literacy, including My Home Library, which helps children build their own home library; Connect For Literacy which offers volunteer opportunities; Camp Adventure, a two-week summer learning program; and the Curiosity Cruiser, a mobile library.

Author James Patterson holds the Guinness world record for the most number one New York Times Best Sellers.  His mission is to prove there is no such thing as a person who "doesn't like to read", only people who haven't found the right book.

Patterson has also given a lot of his earnings back to literacy, including endowed over 500 teacher education scholarships, donating millions of dollars to the Scholastic Classroom Library campaign and donating books to military and school kids across the United States.

Patterson will be signing copies of his latest book, "The 18th Abduction" Friday, May 3, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Murder By the Book here in Houston, TX.  For more information on James Patterson, click here.
