Meet the Astros' No. 99, infielder Randy Cesar

We all know No. 99 for the Texans, but who’s wearing No. 99 for the Astros?

Its infielder Randy Cesar, 23, from the Dominican Republic. He spent the 2017 in Class A.

Cesar, a non-roster invitee to major league camp, says being with the big leaguers leads him to believe he can become one. “I can do whatever they do, so I feel comfortable,” he said. I know I can be here someday.”

“Early in spring (training,) these guys get a little playing time,” said manager A.J. Hinch of minor league players like Cesar. “The organization has put them in front of us for a reason. They’ve earned the right to come here (to big league camp).”

Cesar says he’s worn different uniform numbers throughout his career; he has no preference.

He also admitted he doesn’t know who J.J. Watt is, but was surprised how big Watt is when shown a photo the Texans’ star.

“So, I have to hit homers?” quipped Cesar.
