Family, friends and colleagues will celebrate the life of Councilman Larry Green on Monday, March 12.
The funeral will take place at Brentwood Baptist Church located in the 13000 block of Landmark St. at 11:30 a.m.
There will be a viewing from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by an Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Omega service at 10 a.m.
A jazz visitation reception is scheduled for Sunday, March 11 at Sugar Land Mortuary, located in the 1800 block of Eldridge Road. The reception starts at 4 p.m.
Green, 52, was found dead inside his home early Tuesday afternoon. HPD officers were asked to check on Green after he missed a meeting. There were no signs of foul play, according to police.
Colleagues had nothing but nice things to see about Green and his accomplishments.
“I am shocked and grieving over the untimely death of Houston Council Member Larry Green. But one person’s feelings are secondary to the fact that all of Houston has lost a groundbreaking advocate for equality, economic opportunity and neighborhood safety,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner.
Councilman Dwight Boykins said, “He welcomed me when I was a freshman council member. He showed me the ropes and I have gained so much wisdom from Councilman Green."
A special election will be held May 5 to fill the seat of Councilman Green.
