Tomball woman's husband: 'I had to trade our 5th anniversary for her funeral'

Investigators still have few clues in a murder mystery that stunned a Tomball neighborhood.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Investigators are hoping a $20,000 reward will help them track down the person who murdered 29-year-old Elizabeth Barraza in Tomball last month.

Sergio Barraza said what would be his final goodbye  Elizabeth minutes before she was ambushed in her own driveway.

“I had just left for work," Barraza said Wednesday. “I’m just so happy the last words I got to say to my beautiful wife was “I love you.” “And she said 'I love you too.'"

Liz Barraza was setting up for a garage sale when she was shot multiple times the morning of January 25.

Barraza and her husband were going to use the proceeds to help pay for an anniversary trip.

“I had to trade our fifth anniversary for her funeral,” said Barraza.

Barraza’s father described her as a “simple, kind and generous person, happily living an amazing life of service.”

“She spent her adult life spreading cheer to all of those around her,” he added.

Barraza and her husband Sergio were involved with the 501st Legion and other groups. Through these groups, they converted a passion for Star Wars into smiles for sick children and adults.

“This brutal act demands justice,” her father said.

"I had to trade our fifth anniversary for her funeral," Sergio Barraza, Liz’s husband, said.

Barraza says he and his wife devoted so much time to charity with the 501st Legion, helping kids in hospitals and volunteering at community events. He added that Liz died in the hospital she spent so many hours volunteering at.

“I need justice for Liz,” he said.

The suspect, a woman or a man dressed as a woman, sped off in an older black four-door Nissan Frontier.

The shooting was caught on surveillance video. Investigators still don't know a motive.

Barraza died a day after the shooting at a hospital where she had visited sick children.
