These 4 men entered my backyard today at lunch. After hearing them start to discuss my security cameras, I stepped outside to ask what was going on (while nonchalantly snapping cell phone photos of their faces). One man carried equipment and claimed to be checking for gas leaks, but his equipment did not appear to be a gas leak detector. Whatever he was doing, the other men seemed to stand watch on the other side of my house. They left after I asked what was going on. Centerpoint had no record of crews checking for leaks in the area when I called to inquire. A neighbor who works with Centerpoint Energy said those are not Centerpoint Energy workers because they were not wearing uniforms, carrying badges or knocking to notify us of work. Please call police if you know who they are or see them in your neighborhood. I have video of them available, too.

A community favorite, aging expert Dr. David Gobble, returned to speak at The Buckingham and talk to residents about how to Rewire, Reconnect and Rejuvenate. Dr. Gobble, Director of Masterpiece Living Academy and Professor and Director Emeritus for the Fisher Institute for Wellness and Gerontology at Ball State University, returned to give residents some practical ways to care for their brain and maximize their aging experience.

“Dr. Gobble is such an incredible speaker and we were so excited to welcome him back to The Buckingham,” said Cathy Lightfoot, director of sales and marketing at The Buckingham. “He gave us such good information and such a positive outlook on aging as well as practical tips on what we can all do to care for our brains and make sure we age as well as possible.”

In his presentation, Dr. Gobble focused on the brain and the importance of brain health. He explained that the core components of brain health are: balanced nutrition, stress management, physical exercise, social connections and mental stimulation.

He went on to explain what the brain needs for optimal health, including, new challenges, rich environments, to hear diverse sounds, to see new things, to meet new people, to be with other brains and exercise.

He also encouraged attendees to replace negative words associated with aging with positive empowering words. He suggested using words like accomplished, active, alert, dignified, distinguished, experience, generous, independent, insightful, interesting, kind, knowledgeable, loving, patient, respected, sociable, successful, understanding and wise.

All who attended left feeling rejuvenated and better prepared to care for their brains using Dr. Gobble’s tools.
