Several months ago we started complaining to police and our home owners association about people speeding 35 to 40 miles an hour down our residential neighborhood. We have repeatedly stood outside and yelled at people to slow down. A child getting run down by a vehicle was a great concern of ours. We don't have young children but some of our neighbors do and we see them playing outside. Valentines day my husband and I were sitting in the garage smoking a cigarette, I had my sweet Bridget sitting beside me. All of the sudden Bridget darted out of the garage after a cat. At about the same time I could hear a vehicle barreling down the street. I heard a loud "bap" noise. I told my husband I thought someone had hit the dog. He said that it was probably just the dip in the road. (we always hear cars bottoming out when they fly across it). Anyhow I went inside and he called Bridget. About 10 minutes later he came in the house with tears in his eyes and broke the news that the speeding SUV ran over our baby. I begged to see her, to take her to the vet but he said she died upon impact. The vehicle kept going. They left my poor dog in the street, dead. I am so tired of people and their inconsideration. Sure, you may say, your dog should be on a leash. Yes, perhaps, but does it make it ok to run over a defenseless animal and keep going? Does it make it ok to speed down the street that children play on? I have no idea of what else I can do other than scream loud enough until someone who can help hears me.
