Having Fun While Learning Safe Boating

Lake Conroe Sailing Association Host a Sailing & Safety Boat Class

If you own a sailboat on Lake Conroe, it is always good to refresh your education and safety awareness before the sailing season starts. The Lake Conroe Sailing Association is hosting a Sailing & Safety Boat Class on Saturday, February 13 from 2:00 – 5:00 at the Seven Coves Club House. The class will give people an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming sailing season. The class will include a presentation from the Coast Guard Auxiliary regarding safety, rules and regulations. The LCSA will offer a follow-up class before the race season begins to inspect boats to insure that boat owners have met all regulations and requirements. The class will also include a racing clinic for those interested in participating in the LCSA sponsored races. “I would like to encourage everyone that has an interest in sailing to attend the class. It will give people a better understanding of the sport and an opportunity to meet other LCSA members,” comments Gilbert Garcia, the LCSA 2010 Commodore. The sailing season will officially kick-off on Saturday, March 6, 2010 with the LCSA Annual Commodore’s Kick-off, Fun Sail and Race Planning event.
The Lake Conroe Sailing Association is open to anyone who is interested in sailing or those who wish to learn how to sail. The club host weekly races each Thursday evening from April 1 through September 9, 2010 and a variety of other races and social events throughout the year. Gilbert Garcia, LCSA 2010 Commodore, is pleased to announce a new and exciting series of Saturday Morning Fun Sails. “This will provide an opportunity for anyone who is interested to come out to the lake, get on a member’s sail boat and have some fun while also learning some sailing techniques,” Garcia explains.
Club membership consist of a variety of sailboat enthusiasts; ranging from people who do not own a boat, but that like to sail to boat owners with very small boats, to cruisers to sailors who are competitive and like to race. The club encourages anybody who would like to participate either as a boat skipper or crew member to get involved.
