To celebrate the end of another great summer, The Buckingham senior living community recently hosted a Hawaiian luau event for residents. Island music, tiki torches and Hawaiian décor set the stage for the poolside luau. More than 160 guests turned out adorned in leis and wearing their best island-chic attire to celebrate summer’s end with a traditional Hawaiian evening complete with Mai Tais and fruity frozen daiquiris, coconut shrimp, aloha sweet potatoes, smoked ribs and Hawaiian chicken kabobs.
After dinner, entertainment was provided by Drums of the Pacific, an authentic Polynesian dance and music ensemble. The highlight of the evening was a fire torch dance performed as the finale.
“The luau is one of the most anticipated events of the year,” said Deborah Mahrt, lifestyles director for The Buckingham. “This year’s event did not disappoint as the evening was truly reminiscent of a night on the island as we were entertained by the Polynesian dancers and dined on authentic Hawaiian dishes. A great evening was had by all.”
