He started singing at age 6, and he picked up the violin at age 10. At age 18, Erik Olmos Tristan is an example of pure musical talent flourishing in the land of opportunity. Erik’s parents moved their family from Mexico to the United States when Erik was just 5 years old. For the ninth time, Erik performed at The Village at Gleannloch Farms. More than 50 residents attended the performance, and many said they felt like a “star” was in their midst!
“Erik is absolutely unbelievable. I think he is a child prodigy,” said Mimi Collins, lifestyles director, The Village at Gleannloch Farms. “I call him a born instrument. Our residents are tough critics, and they all look forward to hearing Erik sing and play the violin.”
The residents truly enjoy listening to Olmos Tristan’s music, and they look forward to his performances.
“I am one of Erik’s biggest fans,” said Taylor Jones, resident of The Village at Gleannloch Farms. “The first time I heard his music, I was so moved that tears streamed out of my eyes. “
Even though Erik takes part in gigs all over Houston, and performs in musicals at Baytown Little Theatre, The Village at Gleannloch Farms is one of his favorite spots to
show off his talents.
“They are so nice to me,” said Erik. “It is really inspiring how they come up to me and ask me to keep coming back. They make me feel like someone believes in me, and it helps me overcome insecurities I have about following my dreams.”
When Erik’s family first moved to the United States, Erik and his siblings were part
of the family band. These days, Erik sings and plays violin while his father plays keyboard.
“It is like a second voice to me,” said Erik. “It gives me more range to express myself without words”
Erik does not consider himself to be a prodigy, but he knows that he wants to spend his life performing in front of an audience. He played songs from the 90s when he visited The Village at Gleannloch Farms. The active aging community plans to invite him back for another performance.
