Marcia Bennett, an 82-year-old resident of The Village at Gleannloch Farms, is an inspiration to those around her. She just published her fifth children’s book, “Umbrella Town,” which won first prize at the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Festival. That’s why The Village at Gleannloch Farms held a book launch party for her on Friday, June 8th. Roughly 75-people attended and people of all ages met Marcia and listened to her story at the free event. Many of the children also had a chance to decorate umbrellas.
“It was so much fun,” said Bennett. “The event was much more than I ever imagined, and the children made it special. It began to pour at the end of the program, so when the kids left, they used the umbrellas they painted. It was truly a joy.”
Staff members at The Village at Gleannloch Farms decided to throw the book launch party to honor Bennett’s success. They wanted to show the community that you can follow your dreams at any age.
“Marcia truly inspired the community,” said Mimi Collins, lifestyles director at The Village at Gleannloch Farms. “This event was a wonderful multi-generational gathering and we all had a blast!”
Bennett hopes kids learn a valuable lesson from her book “Umbrella Town”—don’t be afraid to do what is right or what is important and stand up for what you believe in.
