Contrail of possible missile/rocket

Missile Launch Over Gulf of Mexico?

I work on the water in the Clear Lake/Galveston Bay area. I was arriving to work late because of the cold or I would not have noticed this. When I pulled in my wife and I witnessed what appeared to be a rocket or missle launch from the water of the Gulf of Mexico south of Lousiana. I have pictures of the contrail. It made a correcting turn shortly after launch and another one as it reached the stratosphere. A few moments later it was unable to be seen and the contrail was dissipating rapidly. There is no scheduled launch from NASA Kennedy center and if it were it is still too far to be seen from Houston because of the curvature of the Earth. Let me know if you want the pictures. I have no idea what it was and why it was launched from out there. It looked to be heading north to northwest on ascent. Hopefully this wasnt any kind of armament but if it is then we will know in a few moments. The time this happened was approximately 1030am CDT
