Lake Conroe Going Dry

Sailboats Leaving Lake Conroe

Sixteen members of the Lake Conroe Sailing Association hired a 120 ton crane to remove their sailboats from Lake Conroe do to dropping water levels. All normal ramps are closed which required the rental of the crane to lift boats 25 feet to 34 feet in length and place them either on a trailer to be transported to another lake or on boat stands in the Palms Marina. Additional boats will be lifted out on Friday as well. This is a sad day for the club which had to cancel all future sailing events until the water level returns to sailing depths. According to membership chairman Fred Sheldon, the club is having to develop a new boat class remote controlled model sailboats in order to maintain an interest in the club. Several members are already building their new model sailboats and are preparing to attend several model sailing events in the Houston area.
