My son started Kindergarten today and what a day it was! His bus was "scheduled" to arrive home at 4:15. We were expecting the kids to be a little late, we were told to expect some delays the first day. What we weren't expecting was it to be an hour late! This hour "late" actually meant that he had finished school almost 2 hours before he arrived home! That is taking into account the time it takes the school to organize the kids for their departure from school. For the poor kindergartners their first day of school was extremely long. For my son, it meant a 9.5 hour day!! Is that insane or what? I'm just hoping that he's going to want to continue going to school. If this continues, that means that by the time he gets home, eats dinner, does any "homework", and has his usual nightly routine, he won't be getting any free time.
