HOUSTON -- Heavy downpours, lightning and thunder are slowing down the Monday afternoon commute, said KHOU 11 News Chief Meteorologist David Paul.

Heavy thunderstorms should move in from the west and into the Houston area Monday evening.

As the storms continue to produce rain and thunder overnight, we could have a few lingering showers during your Tuesday morning commute. A few scattered showers will continue into the afternoon hours.

Temperatures will stay warm Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the low 80’s.

On Thursday, a strong cold front moves into the area, there’s a 40 percent chance for rain and lows will be in the mid 70’s.

We’ll struggle to reach 70 degrees on Friday and Saturday, but a slow warming trend will begin on Sunday as temps start to rebound to 80 degrees by the beginning of next week.
