HOUSTON – While Tropical Storm Hermine is not expected to be a direct threat to the Houston area, it should bring some heavy rains on Tuesday, 11 News Chief Meteorologist Gene Norman said.

Tuesday will see an 80-percent chance for rain and thunderstorms with a low of 78 and a high of 83 degrees.

Rain chances will continue throughout the week, with a 60 percent chance on Wednesday and dropping to 30 percent by the end of the week. Temperatures will range from the high 70s to low 90s for the remainder of the week.

Because of the high chances for rain, a flash flood watch was put into effect until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday for Austin, Brazoria, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Matagorda, Waller and Wharton Counties.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Hermine made landfall in Mexico late Monday night and was expected to cross into southern Texas sometime Tuesday morning. For the latest on this storm, be sure to check out khou.com's Hurricane Central page.
