HOUSTON -- Everyone will get a freeze overnight into Thursday, except for those along the beach, said KHOU 11 News Meteorologist David Paul.

Temps will be in the mid to upper 20s in the suburbs, while in midtown Houston it’ll be in the low 30’s. This light freeze overnight will not threaten the pipes, but bring in any potted plants, and make sure that pets have food, water and a warm place to sleep if they’re outside.

It’ll be warmer on Thursday with a high of 56. These mid-50 temps are about 10 degrees below what’s normal for the year.

The snow storm that’s brewing now in the Rockies will send rain and a front to Houston on Friday. But it will get cooler and drier going into the weekend. Expect to have chilly mornings and cool afternoons on Saturday and Sunday.

There’s a 40-percent chance of showers on Monday and Tuesday, so prepare to have a soggy New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. That’s also when we could get another strong wind storm.
